NRA Basic Pistol course. Course participants must be law abiding, adults 21 years of age or above, and experienced shooters to maximize what can be learned from this course.

The Personal Protection in the Home Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun and shotgun* for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual's right to self-defense in the home. This is a eight-hour course and includes an optional 2 hour add on module and range time introducing the defensive shotgun*. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of handgun ammunition and 25 rounds of shotgun familiarization fire. The course provides training in the following topics:

300 rounds of handgun ammunition, 25 rounds of 00 buck, 25 rounds of slug
Pistol, holster, three magazines, magazine holders, properly functioning shotgun in 12 or 20 gauge, belt, clear wraparound ballistic eye protection, ear protection, rain gear, weapons cleaning kit, clothing appropriate for climate and conditions and a water bottle or other hydration system. Knee and elbow pads are strongly recommended. Shotguns available for use at additional cost.
